Admission Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a background in either the biological, physical or computational sciences, although some knowledge of more than one area is desirable. Requirements for admission are:

  1. one year of general biology or the equivalent; coursework in genetics, cell biology and computer science is advantageous
  2. two years of chemistry
  3. one year of calculus
  4. one year of physics
  5. at least eight semester hours in cognate sciences related to the program
  6. a satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination for the verbal, quantitative and analytical sections
  7. a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0 out of 4.0. (The minimum grade point average for international applicants attending international institutions is 3.0/4.0 for the bachelor’s degree and 3.3/4.0 for graduate work.)
  8. Applicants may need to provide evidence of English proficiency via TOEFL or IELTS test scores. The following are exempt: Applicants who are citizens of a country where English is an official language; applicants who received an undergraduate, graduate or professional degree at an institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
